INTRODUCTION

 
On June 5, 2015, India’s central food regulator, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), placed a ban on the production and sale of Maggi noodles across the country. In its order, the FSSAI pronounced Nestlé’s Maggi “unsafe and hazardous for human consumption,” based on government lab tests that showed the noodles had excess amounts of lead and monosodium glutamate (MSG ). But Nestlé maintained that it did not add MSG to the product and the presence of excess lead was “surprising" for the company...
